Summers are on board and the scorching heat is taking a toll on your skin and hair. As the mercury level rises the body reacts to the heat and humidity which ultimately leads to problems like pimples and acne breakouts, rashes and sun damage. Even your hair tends to get affected by problems like frizz, greasy scalp and discoloration for coloured hair. But no need to freak out!!!  At Coffee Bytes we bring you expert advice on how to maintain a perfect skin and hair care regimen this summer. So, let’s start with skincare. Everyone wishes to have a healthy and beautiful skin. So, an extra effort and some precautions are needed to achieve a happy skin.

Apply Sunscreen:

The summer sun can be really harsh on your skin.  It not only disturbs your inner pH balance but an  extra hour under the sun can lead to serious tanning which can take days to get back to normal. So, make sure to use a generous amount of sunscreen all over your face and body at least 30 minutes before you step out of home.

Be sure to choose your sunscreen properly. Bhubaneswar based dermatologist Dr. Dipti Behera suggests to choose a sun-screen with a good SPF content which provides protection from the UV-A and UV-B rays. Make sure to reapply every 3-4 hours.

Also invest on a good lip-balm with SPF to avoid dry, chapped lips and keep it hydrated and beautiful.

Skin Treatments and Facials:

Indian skin tends to tan a lot during summer days. Regular exposure to sunrays not only leads to sun-burns and blemishes but also darkening and uneven skin tone. Hence, skin experts recommend for a regular De-tan treatment in a professional salon who understands your skin type.

In summers, there is also an excess amount of sebum or oil secretion due to which your skin’s pH balance gets disturbed. This attracts a lot of bacteria, which leads to pimples and acne, one could try herbal products to homeopathy to treat acne. The algae peel-off mask helps to detoxify and relax the skin and brings a natural glow on the skin, says Tamannah, manager and skin expert at Vogue Fashion Salon in Saheed Nagar, Bhubaneswar. Vogue recently won the Best Bridal Makeup Studio of the twin city and provides the best summer acne treatment.

Home Remedies:Along with facial treatments, proper homecare is really necessary to fight sun damage and maintain a summer-friendly skin.

Heat boils and rashes (Prickly heat) are common during summers. So it’s really important to keep your skin protected. Rubbing ice-packs and use of prickly heat talcs can help a long way. Alovera gel also helps a lot in soothing and healing sun damaged skin.

Sun-tan is also a common problem during this season. Here are a few home-made packs to remove tanning and keep your skin fresh:

  1. Curd, Honey and Turmeric : Take 2 tsp curd, 1 tsp honey and 1 tsp turmeric and mix it together to make a smooth paste. Apply it on your skin and leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash off with water. Using this pack once a week will help you get rid of your skin tan.
  2. Neem, Orange and Sandalwood : Mix 2tsp of neem, orange, sandalwood and multani mitti (fullers’ earth) powder together. Add a quarter tsp of honey and half a tsp of lemon juice. Add rose water to make a smooth paste. Apply this on your face and neck for 15-20 minutes and wash off with plain water. It works wonders for both oily and combination skin.
  3. Banana, Papaya and Honey : Smash one banana and few pieces of ripe papaya to make your paste. Add honey into this paste. Apply it on your face and body and let it dry. Wash it off with water and pat dry. This pack is excellent to remove sun-tan and discoloration. Regular application can give you a beautiful glowing skin.
Follow CTM routine:Other than all kinds of skin treatments and protections, there is one golden rule you need to follow everyday without fail. And that is cleansing, toning and moisturizing (the CTM routine). Everyday makeup and skin products can attract a lot of dust and grime. Added to that the regular sun exposure can blemish your skin and make it look dull at the end of the day.

So it’s necessary to maintain an everyday skin care regimen in order to revitalize your skin and keep it problem-free. The first step is Cleansing. Choose a good cleansing milk or baby oil to wipe the dirt and makeup residue from your skin. Then wash your face with good cleanser or face wash. Choose the cleanser according to your skin type.

Then comes Toning. Many of us tend to skip this part but it’s very important clean up the leftover dirt and makeup residue and helps to maintain the pH value of your skin. A good toner can help to reduce skin pores and keep it looking younger and fresh. The last but not the least is Moisturizing. Invest on a good moisturizer according to your skin type as it helps to nourish your skin and keep it soft and beautiful. It also has anti-aging benefits and essentials to maintain an even glow on your skin.

Body scrubs and polishers:Like your face, your body also needs a good cleansing routine. Exposure to everyday pollution and sunrays can leave it tanned and lusture-less. Your everyday body-wash helps to cleanse the dirt to some extent but a good exfoliation is required to keep the skin beautiful and problem-free. So it’s really necessary that you use a good body-scrub at least twice a week to deep-cleanse your skin.

Other than this it’s highly recommended to take a Body Polishing Therapy at a good beauty salon at least once a month. It helps to detoxify your skin and relax your body and mind.

Pedicure and Manicure:In summers, due to over-exposure to the sunrays the colour of your hand and feet tends to get darker than the other body parts. Accumulation of sweat and dirt sometimes even leads to fungal infection. So, it’s important to get regular pedicure and manicure done at a good beauty salon. It is also beneficial in improving blood circulation and de-stressing your body. Do a  special Anti-tan pedicure  to treat tanning of your feet and hands which helps to replenish their natural beauty and suppleness. The Crystallized Aroma pedicure and manicure also helps in refreshment and relaxation of your body and mind.
Hair-spa:Along with regular hair washes and conditioning it’s really important to go for a hair spa atleast once a month. It not only nourishes your scalp but protects it from heat damage. Regular spa treatments help to maintain the health and enhance the shine of your hair. Silk spa for frizz, Vitalizing spa for dry and damaged hair and Root Booster spa for hair fall are some of the best hair care treatments which can help in maintaining the beauty of your tresses.

So why wait, head for your favourite salon and give your beloved tresses it’s much needed pampering.

Protective Hair Masks:The soaring summer heat and humidity can cause sweaty and greasy hair. Many a times it leads to accumulation of dirt, grime and itchy scalp. Shampoo and conditioners do help to some extent, but in order to maintain your hair texture, it’s better to go for a nice protective hair mask . Hair experts say it is good to apply a hair mask after shampoo in order to restore the moisture and natural shine of your hair.

Markets are flooded with many types of protective hair masks but it’s always better to take expert advice and get a professional hair mask from a good authorized hair salon.

Hairstyles:

We all love to flaunt our open tresses but in summers it can be really irritating to manage those loose hair locks. Other than that open hair is prone to more damage as it gets direct sun and dust exposure. Short haircuts can be really fun option but it doesn’t always suit everyone. But no need to panic because we have got you some chic hairstyles which are super easy, hassle free and trendy.

The most popular hairstyle this season is Top Knots. Sported by many celebrities and fashionitas it can be donned with any kind of attire, be it an ethnic kurti or a funky western top.

Another fun hairstyle is Double Braided Buns. It’s mostly popular among collegites and teenagers. But if you love experimenting and can pull on the look nothing better than that.

The third but the most effective classic style is the simple and sleek Ponytail. It’s smart, stylish and effortless.

Complimentary Tip: You can also tie up your hair with a funky colorful bandana or a really pretty headband.

Expert Advice :Reduce caffeine intake. Sleep at least 6-8 hours daily. Keep yourself hydrated. Carry your water bottles everywhere. Wear sunscreen before stepping outside. Reapply ever 3-4 hours. Carry your umbrella, scarves and a good pair of shades to stay protected from sun. Wear good quality makeup which is waterproof and sweat proof and enriched in SPF. Exfoliate your skin regularly and follow the CTM routine.

If you are well prepared to beat the heat, summers can be real fun. So take care and stay beautiful!!!!
